Advocating for the enhancement of safe and accessible access to the Lower Schuylkill River

About the Schuylkill River Park Alliance

Our mission is to advocate for all users of the Lower Schuylkill River (below the Art Museum dam) to preserve and enhance safe and easy access to the River and to promote responsible development, management and enjoyment of the Lower Schuylkill River and the parks along its banks.

From 2003 – 2012, SRPA was the leading advocate for improving the two street level crossings at Race and Locust Streets. We waged a successful campaign for an agreement between the City of Philadelphia and CSX Transportation to maintain access at these crossings in addition to facilitating the construction of a connector bridge between the Schuylkill Banks and the “original” Schuylkill River Park at 25th and Spruce Streets.

In 2012, SRPA refocused its efforts on activating use of the river itself. While the development of the Schuylkill River Trail has met with extraordinary and ongoing success, the use of the Lower Schuylkill’s waters has lagged behind the successes of other cities. As a short-term goal, SRPA is working to promote tours aboard the new riverboat Patriot, which started operations in May 2013.

Schuylkill River Park Alliance is registered in the name of Lower Schuylkill River Users Association as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The official registration and financial information of LSRUA may be obtained from the Pennsylvania Department of State by calling 800-732-0999.

Please join us in our efforts to save and enhance the use and enjoyment of this wonderful part of our City and region.
