Happy 4th of July

Schuylkill River Park Trail is the best place to watch the Fireworks on the 4th! Nothing compares to the fireworks above the Art Museum and thier reflection in the river below!

There is lots of room between Cherry and Race Street along the trail.

For safety, sections of the trail might be blocked around the Art Museum.

See the Connector Bridge slide show  here

Schuylkill River Development Corporation and Fairmount Park held a second public meeting on June 12th on the Connector Bridge. They presented a preliminary design treatment of the connector bridge using the chosen yellow alignment that runs along the western edge of the Schuylkill River Park over the CSX tracks to Schuylkill Banks in a south to north line.  Photos of the current design treatment are here

Philly Spring Clean Up A Big Hit! & Continued with the May 17th -- Philadelphia Cares About Fairmount Park Cleanup

Hundreds (hundreds!!!) of you came out on April 5th, a beautiful Saturday morning,  to participate in Mayor Nutter's first City wide Philly Spring Clean Up at the Schuylkill River Park Trail on Schuylkill Banks. It was the biggest clean up ever and hundreds of bags of trash were collected from the running/bike path, river banks and all around the park.  MANY THANKS to all of who came and pitch in to helped do such a massive job.  Special thanks to the Streets Department for coming back to pick up every last bag, to Fairmount Park for helping organize our site, and to our partners SRDC and Friends of Schuylkill River Park for everything they did to make this entire event a great success.  The park looks fantastic and Schuylkill River Park Alliance thanks everyone who expressed such civic pride for Philadelphia and the Schuylkill River Park Trail.  You can see photos taken during the morning on our Picasa site here or click on our photo albums to the right.

Clean and Brown Success!

On President's Day (February 18th), five of us cleaned up the city side of the tracks between Race and Cherry Streets.  We picked up all the trash and recyclables, and cut down a few more of the grasses and invasive shrubbery.

Connector Bridge Alignment Determined

The design concept team carefully reviewed the comments and ideas from park users, stakeholders and neighbors gathered from last fall’s meeting and surveys on the three posible bridge alignments. It also studied several other potential alternatives that involved structures outside of Schuylkill River Park. Upon this review, the DCT concluded that the “yellow” or “west border” alignment was the most feasible and best met the needs of the project and the community’s concerns. See and read more on the Connector Bridge page here.
